How to use this calculator

  • Measure the length and width of the area in feet.
  • Enter depth in inches — 2–3 inches is standard for landscape beds and paths.
  • Adjust the waste/settling factor and optionally add your supplier’s price per ton.

The math behind it

Cubic yards = length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 12 ÷ 27, plus waste. Tons = cubic yards × 1.35, the typical weight of pea gravel per cubic yard. Bags = cubic yards × 27 ÷ 0.5, rounded up.

FAQs

How deep should pea gravel be?

2–3 inches for landscape beds and pathways over landscape fabric; 4 inches for areas with heavy foot traffic.

How much does a ton of pea gravel cover?

About 100 square feet at 2 inches deep, or 65–70 square feet at 3 inches.

Bulk or bags?

Bulk delivery wins on price for a cubic yard or more; bags make sense for small touch-ups under half a yard.
