CONSTRUCTION CALCULATORS / PROJECT ESTIMATOR

Paver Calculator

Calculate patio paver quantities from length, width, coverage per paver and waste. Review cuts, border layouts and base-material estimates.

Inputs: patio area, paver coverage (0.5 ft² per paver by default), and waste.

Preliminary planning only. Confirm actual material specifications, safety and local code requirements.

Measure the patio and the installed paver module

Enter the rectangular patio length and width in feet. Coverage per paver is the square-foot area assigned to one installed unit; confirm whether the supplier’s published coverage includes the specified joints. Mixed-size patterns need a product-specific takeoff instead of a single-piece assumption.

Paver formula and worked example

Pavers = length × width ÷ coverage per paver × (1 + waste ÷ 100), rounded up. A 12 × 15 ft patio is 180 ft². At 0.5 ft² per paver, the base quantity is 360 pieces. Adding 10% gives 396 pavers.

Paver questions

Does the tool optimize a laying pattern?

No. Borders, curves, diagonal cuts and mixed modules can change the order. Draw the layout and choose a cutting allowance appropriate to it.

Are bedding sand and base aggregate included?

No. Specify their separate areas and installed depths. Do not treat the paver’s thickness as the required base depth.

Should I round to pallets?

The result is pieces. Convert it to the supplier’s pack or pallet quantity and round purchasing units up, while checking whether individual pieces are available.

Build the rest of the materials list

Use Gravel for a separately specified base, Sand for bedding volume and Square Footage for nonrectangular area calculations. Edge restraints and jointing materials remain separate.
