How to use this calculator
- Enter the room’s length and width.
- Choose your tile size.
- Set waste — 10% for straight layouts, 15%+ for diagonal or rooms with many corners.
- Enter tiles per box from the box label to get a box count.
The math behind it
Tiles = room area (sq in) ÷ tile area (sq in), plus waste, rounded up. Boxes = tiles ÷ tiles per box, rounded up. Thinset estimate assumes ~90 sq ft per 50 lb bag.
FAQs
How many tiles do I need for a 12×10 bathroom?
120 sq ft with 12×12 in tiles and 10% waste = 132 tiles, or 14 boxes of 10. Always buy a full box extra — dye lots vary and future repairs need matching tile.
How much extra tile should I order?
10% for simple straight layouts, 15% for diagonal patterns or rooms with lots of cuts around fixtures. Keep the leftovers — matching tile is hard to find later.
